If youвЂ™re not used to used saxophone lingo, that means that a highly-skilled woodwind repairman is going to be spending about 30 hours of labor on this horn going over every detail, and replacing everything that can be replaced, (all new pads, corks, felts, mechanical work, setup, play testing, neck fit, full disassembly, cleaning, fresh oil etc.) so that itвЂ™s totally rebuilt and ready for its next many years of playing. But itвЂ™s the bark and вЂfatnessвЂ™ to the tone that I think makes people flock to Keilwerth on bari.The Couf Superba 1 is basically a special version of the SX90, and was played famously by Grover Cleveland. You can also use a more traditional larger chamber, lower baffle mouthpiece and get a dark, rich, warm tone of course. They have a dark, powerful tone that combines well with a brighter mouthpiece to give you that biting, funky tone that makes bari so much fun to play.

It has older pads, which are still sealing, but IвЂ™m selling it priced on the low side even though itвЂ™s so clean and beautiful so that you can play it, enjoy it, and sooner or later get it overhauled. There really arenвЂ™t many baritones that can beat it for combination of tone and keywork. I would take a Superba 1 over a Mark VI bari all day long.

There are not many of these Superba 1 sopranos around, and this is a beautiful example that also has a fresh, well-done overhaul. It works well too, with a classical mouthpiece, giving you a round, dark, warm, centered soprano sound. The fat, rich core tone works great for any kind of music, but with a mouthpiece with a bit of baffle, you get a fat, dark core with a bright, crisp edge, and that is the tone that lots of people go for for jazz soprano.
